Dieses Buch ist die Grundlage für das Musical und damit das Fundament einer meiner liebsten Geschichten. Wir begleiten die 15 jährige Gilberte, genannt Gigi, und ihre Familie. Neben der Großmutter Inez, der Mutter Andrée, der Großtante Alicia und dem Freund der Familie Gaston Lachaille. Genau dieser ist ein finanziell gut situierter Mann Anfang 30. Gleich zu Anfang wird uns mitgeteilt das er sich von seiner Mätresse getrennt hat, nachdem er mitbekommen hat, dass diese ihn mit ihrem Schlittschuhlehrer betrogen hat. Während er weiterhin seinen Verpflichtungen nachgeht begleiten wir Gigi bei der Ausbildung durch ihre Großtante, denn diese war selber eine Mätresse. Doch geht nicht alles nach Plan der Familie und am Ende habe ich Tränen geweint vor Freude.
