Optisch abwechslungsreich, düster, dreckig, teilweise albtraumhaft inszeniert. Ja, das auf der einen Seite. Auf der anderen Seite steht eine Storyline, die nicht so recht weiß, was sie sein will. Zwei Handlungsstränge, die Gemeinsamkeiten haben, und doch nicht zueinander finden. Da sind brutale Szenen, die in ihrer Heftigkeit im Kontext des allgegenwärtigen Fragezeichens über dem Kopf des Lesers fremdartig anmuten. Und auch nicht jeder Dialog will sich angenehm ins Bild dieser offensichtlich episch düsteren Geschichte einfügen. Zuviel Geplänkel, zu viel Kammerspiel bei zu viel Mystery. Das Verhältnis stimmt hier irgendwo nicht. Gideon Falls sucht sein Gleichgewicht und hat es in Band 1 noch nicht (ganz) gefunden. Was will man dem Leser zeigen, was will man jetzt eigentlich darstellen. Diese Frage steht dauernd im Raum und wird nicht konsequent beantwortet. Ich gebe Band 2 eine Chance, dann müssen für mich (!) aber auch „Antworten“ her.
