I think nobody is more surprised than me that I didn't love a Elizabeth Acevedo book. There just too many povs that weren't distinctive enough - especially as the jumps between past and present came into play, I got so confused with everybody, - not enough magic for me to actually consider this "magical realism", too much pretty prose to actually deliver the content of the plot... there was also a lot of spanish passages in this book and even though I did study some spanish at university, it certainly wasn't enough to understand it here. Overall, I think this book just doesn't live up to the blurb and tries too much in too little pages.
