Tropes: – fake dating – sports agent – ex gfs wedding – grumpy x sunshine
I like this book. It is a sweet and joyful read, spicy too. But to me it feels a little bit…repetitive. That doesn’t have to be a bad thing – I‘ve read Eden Finley‘s and Saxon James‘ CU hockey series before I read this. I think if you like this series and don’t expect something entirely different, you‘ll be completely fine with this series as well. You even get to meet a character that also plays a role in this series in this book too – Damon. However, I do think – and that‘s indeed a point of critic – that Damon and Maddox are not exactly very layered or memorable characters. Don‘t get me wrong, reading about them and from their PoV is fun and very much enjoyable, and both of them have their fears and challenges they face, and there are more serious moments – but if you ask me in a month or so about this story, I will very likely not be able to give you any details. 3/5⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
I'd say this was a perfectly steamy middle-of-the-road romance. It played on the fake dating trope (a great one in my books); had main characters with some quirks and edges, which is nice; the drama was a bit much sometimes, for my personal tastes (especially that graduation scenario), but a big plus is that miscommunication is not played to death in this one! Upon reread: Finley for sure got better over the years, these make me more uncomfortable than the Puckboy series, I gotta admit :D
