I went into this without realizing that it's the second part in the series. This hindered my enjoyment of the book, especially in the first half. I felt like a lot of the world-building was done in the first book, and was confused in this one. It gave me the feeling of missing out. The story is nothing special. It's heavily driven by the quests they have to complete and, at times, it felt rushed. I would have loved to spend more time on every part of their quests. In the first half of the book, Kieran really annoyed me. He's so whiny. It gets better in the second half. For me, the second half of the book was way better than the first. I enjoyed the characters and seeing them succeed. Still, it did feel quite basic and nothing revolutionary.
