These Pern books are turning out to be strange but beautiful oddities. I'm sure part of it is the time they were written. Thankfully some of the dated aspects I didn't like from Dragonsinger weren't here, but I'm sure they'll raise their ugly head in future books. But that is just one aspect of works that are otherwise utterly charming.
