Hier mal ein Abbruch 🤷♀️ Hab mich echt auf die Story gefreut, aber habe beim Lesen dann aber recht schnell gemerkt, dass ich nicht in die Story reinkomme. War irgendwie ganz wirr geschrieben und ich habe überhaupt nicht den Faden der Story gefunden. Als ich dann dachte es geht endlich los plätscherte es immer noch so dahin. Hat mich kein Stück gepackt. Dann kamen plötzlich noch Gender-Pronomen dazu . Also sier , siesen , sies usw. Da muss ich ehrlich sagen das stört leider meinen Lesefluss . Aber vorrangig war es die Story. Habe es bis Seite 100 probiert. Schade. Hat jemand gute Empfehlungen für Sci Fi ? Spannung sollte gegeben sein und Horrorelemte auch willkommen.
Ich griff zu "Dead Space" für galaktischen Thrill, bekam aber erst einmal jede Menge Politik. Die Tiefe und Ausführlichkeit, mit der Kali Wallace das Worldbuilding kreiert hat, hat mir ziemlich gut gefallen aber in der ganzen ersten Hälfte fehlt deshalb Spannung. Zu viele Rückblicke in politische Geschehnisse und die persönliche Vergangenheit der Protagonistin bremsen immer wieder das Geschehen aus. Ich hatte mir facettenreichere Ermittlungen gewünscht, statt wieder und wieder innere Monologe von Hester. Eine Nebenfigur ist nicht-binär und wird mit dem Pronomen „sier“ angesprochen. Sicher spannend für Leute, die gezielt nach queerer Repräsentation suchen, allerdings sind mir ein paar Pronomen-Fehler in Form von "er" aufgefallen und ich hätte mir eine Beschreibung von Ryu gewünscht. In der zweiten Hälfte wurde es dann aufregender und unheimlicher, da habe ich dann aber auch wieder kleinere Kritikpunkte gefunden, die mich schließlich 3⭐ vergeben lassen. Hat mir Spaß gemacht aber "Dead Space" ist in meinen Augen kein "must read".

《Knowing an ugly truth and having the power to fight it are two very different things. 》 Hester Marley was an AI expert who'd been on her way to make great discoveries for herself and humankind. That is until a terrorist attack killed the majority of her research team and left her stuck with a dead-end job and astronomical medical bills to a powerful company, far out in the asteroid belt. Hester had to adjust to this new bleak reality, until she received a cryptic message by one of the few team members who'd survived the terrorist attack. Her old friend had something urgent to tell her. Just hours later he is dead.. It took me a while to really get into this book. The first half is rather slow and it felt like not much was actually happening (even though there was a corpse very early on). There is a lot of searching for clues, but it didn't feel much like an investigation. But 50% through, the plot finally kicked off and there was a lot of action, threats and dangerous situations to solve. Getting to know the main character, her past, mindset, and current situation, was interesting. However, there was a lot of internal monologue, as the main character tried to put the puzzle pieces together, and not much of it was externalised through interactions with other characters. I realised that my favorite scenes involved closer interactions with some of the side-characters. The reader doesn't learn much about these characters, but there was a slowly unfolding narrative for some of them. And to see their previous behavior change due to the drastically worsening circumstances, made them much more likeable to me. The author raises topics of corporal greed, the unresponsible handling of powerful machines, war crimes, and the alieniation of ethnical groups. It's a reflection of our own world. The author doesn't explore these topics on a deeper level but I enjoyed them regardless. I liked the discussions of ethics, the inclusive cast of characters (queer rep), and the humor. I'd consider this a light, not too serious read.
