Das Konzept des Buches hat mir sehr viel versprochen, aber ich wurde leider komplett enttäuscht. Am Anfang wird bereits gesagt, dass es egal ist, mit welcher Perspektive ich anfangen kann. Weswegen ich mich dazu entschlossen habe, die hintere Perspektive zuerst zu lesen und das kann ich auf keinen Fall empfehlen. Ich wurde teilweise komplett goil Erd für den restlichen Verlauf der Geschichte. Wobei ich sogar davon überzeugt wäre, dass beide Geschichten einfach nur komplett das gleiche sind aus anderen Perspektiven. Ich habe teilweise das doppelte gelesen, was mich komplett gelangweilt hat und für mich überflüssig war. Auch die Plottwists haben mich überhaupt nicht überraschen können. Generell fand ich leider alles sehr tröge und sehr langweilig, weswegen ich das Buch nicht empfehlen kann. Auch die Idee, dass das Opfer als Geist auftritt, hat mir überhaupt nicht gut gefallen, das hätte ganz anders umgesetzt werden können. Für mich war das irgendwie eine Mischung aus verwirrten Fantasy Aspekten (die für mich da überhaupt gar keinen Platz hatten) und eine Mystery Anteil, der komplett vorhersehbar war.

Von dem Konzept des Buches war ich total begeistert! Es kann von beiden Seiten - aus Sicht des Killers und aus Sicht des Opfers - gelesen werden. Zufällig habe ich das mit einer Freundin auf der Frankfurter Buchmesse gesehen und war direkt hin und weg, weil wir das unbedingt schon mal bestellen wollten. Sogar die Autorin war da und hat es direkt signiert. Im Buddy Read hat jeder dann von einer Seite angefangen und anschließend umgedreht, bis wir in der Mitte die Wahrheit erfahren. Wir haben uns auf feurige Diskussion und spannende Plottwists gefreut - leider muss ich sagen, war das Leseereignis für mich recht langweilig. Die Spannung hat gefehlt und es war sehr langatmig. Die Story ans ich fand ich auch nicht wirklich neu und es gab mir auch keine großen Rätsel auf. Die zweite Seite der Geschichte bin ich dann leider nur noch überflogen, da auch keine wirklichen Neuigkeiten kamen. In der letzten Hoffnung, dass sich das Blatt in der Mitte nochmal wendet, habe ich mich irgendwie durchgebissen. Aber selbst hier, fand ich es nicht wirklich spannend oder überraschend. Sehr schade, da das Konzept wirklich super ist!

Ich hab das Buch innerhalb von 24 Stunden durchgelesen und dabei quasi im Tandem zwischen beiden Perspektiven gelesen. Und ganz ehrlich, ich glaube genau das hat für mich den Unterschied gemacht. Wenn ich es normal, Seite für Seite gelesen hätte, wäre es für mich vermutlich lange nicht so gut gewesen. So war ich aber ständig neugierig, wie die andere Perspektive gerade drauf ist und was als Nächstes passiert, ohne mich direkt auf eine Person zu versteifen. Ich hab beide Mädels quasi zeitgleich auf ihre Art kennengelernt. Es liest sich super flüssig, hat für mich keine wirklichen Längen und hat mich einfach durchgehend gut unterhalten. Kein Thriller, der mich komplett zerlegt hat, aber einer, bei dem ich echt Spaß hatte und den ich kaum weglegen konnte. Supi, hat Spaß gemacht!
Ich bin nicht so gut reingekommen in die Geschichte, der Schreibstil war nicht meins
Viola and Syl couldn't be more similar to outsiders. Born on the same day, going to the same school and living on the same street. They are sisters born from different mothers. But when their lives would bring them to study at different universities, Syl is found dead in Viola's abandoned car. Viola is instantly the main suspect, but no one can explain what had happened up to that point for those two to be torn apart.
The book in itself is unique. To have both versions of the point of view from each main character to find out what happened (in their version) and to make one's own opinion about the people and their decisions. It touches upon the complex feelings of teenagers trying to find themselves in life, having been manipulated and doing the same thing back to others. In the end, no one of the main characters or any of the other people appearing in the story are essentially good, or mean the best, they all have their twisted view and want to do best by themselves. To read the ending, after both povs was coming as a surprise to me and was also a relief to have finally come to a finish point, both for Viola to find out the truth and for Syl to have found peace. For the detective and unreliable narrator minds this book is definitely something; the ones loving a redemption arc, this is NOT it.

I really had a great time reading this book. What immediately drew me in was the concept of two girls telling their own versions of the same tragic story, with the choice of which perspective to start with. That narrative structure made the reading experience feel fresh and immersive, like I was actively piecing together the truth from two very different angles. It’s such a clever idea, and it really set this book apart from other YA thrillers I’ve read. The plot twists were another highlight. Just when I thought I had things figured out, the story turned in a completely different direction. I did not see the reveals coming, which kept the suspense alive right through to the end. The atmosphere of the book is tense and haunting, part small-town drama, part ghost story, which gave everything an eerie, claustrophobic undertone. While some sections felt a bit repetitive because of the overlapping perspectives, I actually appreciated how the structure emphasized the subjectivity of memory and truth. It made me question both narrators and kept me engaged in a different way. Thank you NetGalley for giving me an Audio ARC for this book.

Der schreib Stil war gut, man ist gut in das Buch hineingekommen. An sich ,war die story line ganz okay - nichts wirklich besonderes. Habe etwas mehr erwartet, dennoch konnte man es gut lesen.
