Das Buch enthält als Sammelband die 2 Novellen „Daisy Miller“, eine Geschichte über die beiden Amerikaner Winterbourne und Daisy Miller, die sich zufällig in der Schweiz treffen und annähern, deren Verhalten bezüglich der gesellschaftlichen Konventionen aber sehr unterschiedlich ausfällt, und „The Turn of the Screw“ in der eine junge Frau auf ein abgelegenes Landhaus kommt um sich dort im die Kinder zu kümmern, aber schnell Geister sieht, was zu einem tragischen Ende führt.
Insgesamt hat mir die erste Geschichte besser gefallen. Sie war leichter wegzulesen und auch die Einordnung am Ende hat mir beim Verständnis geholfen. Die zweite Geschichte fand ich deutlich schwieriger und hat mir um einiges mehr Konzentration abverlangt. Insgesamt bereue ich nicht, dass Buch gelesen zu haben, aber es ist auch kein Lieblingsklassiker geworden.
