Description

An epic clash between gods and mortals threatens to tear Mytica apart . . . and prove that not even the purest of love stands a chance against the strongest of magic.

MAGNUS and CLEO are forced to test the strength of their love when Gaius returns to Mytica claiming he's no longer the King of Blood but a changed man seeking redemption.

LUCIA, pregnant with the child of a Watcher, has escaped the clutches of the unhinged fire god. Her powers are dwindling as she goes forth to fulfill a prophecy that will keep her baby safe . . . but could mean her demise.

JONAS treks back to Mytica with a plan to overtake Amara, but fate takes hold when he runs into the beautiful Princess Lucia and joins her on her perilous journey.

AMARA has taken the Mytican throne, but with no way to unleash the water magic trapped within her stolen crystal, she'll never be able to seize glory and get sweet revenge.

And what kind of darkness will descend--and who will be safe--after Prince Ashur reveals the dangerous price he paid to cheat death?

THAT CLIFFHANGER??? WHHHYYYYY????? Starting this book, I had a feeling that it was going to end with a cliffhanger. I mean, it's the second to last book the series, so you kind of have to build some tension, right? Why does it have to be with my favorite character though? WHY? I had to wait a long time for this book, but when I finally read it, it felt like comming home. This is one of my most favorite series of all time, and although I read the fourth book right when it came out (like an eternity ago, it feels like) I didn't have a hard time getting into the story and the writing again. Morgan Rhodes just has a way of putting things that always leaves me craving for more. I honestly wanted to take my time with this book, because I knew I had to wait a long time for the next one, but all in all it took me like 2-3 days to finish it, which is pretty fast for my standards at least. Anyhow, when reading this book I realized how much I actually missed this world, these characters, this writing, just everything about it. To see how much the plot and the characters developed compared to the first book is just amazing! PLOT: The book was very fast-paced. Every chapterending left me wanting more, and once I was actually reading the book I couldn't stop anymore. It was interesting and full of twists I did not see comming at all. Who can you trust? Whose intentions are indeed what they seem? We don't know. This book kept me on edge the whole time, which I really loved. But that cliffhanger at the end, though? Was that really necessary? My heart can't take it ... CHARACTERS: Cleo: I have to be honest with you, I still don't know what I should think of her. I liked her a lot better in this book than in the previous ones, but some of her actions just seem so strange to me. I can't figure her out, which is a good and a bad thing at the same time I guess. The ways she acts were kind of contradictory in this book, but nevertheless I liked seeing her being passionate about the people she loves. Magnus: Speaking of being passionate, am I right? Magnus has always been my favorite character, and he will always remain my favorite. What else can I say? I like his character, the way he handles things. I honestly can't say anything I haven't already said in previous reviews. I love this guy. But his father though? The king? Whaaaat? Jonas: I am not completely sure where his storyline is going to lead, so I am kind of torn about the way I feel for him. However, I think that he was the character (along with Lucia, I guess) with the most character development in this book. I am excited to see where this will lead us. Lucia: I do think that we will see a lot of growth in her character in the next book especially. Certain things that happened to her in this book could lead to an amazing character! As for now, I am not quite sure where these things will lead us. We can only wait and see. Amara & Ashur: Wow, those two. What can I say? I have always liked Ashur and his way with people, but some things he did in this book made me question his sanity. I am really intruiged to see where his story goes though! Same for Amara. I didn't like her chapters as much, just because I don't like her as a person, but hey, maybe things will change in the next book? Probably not, but I have hope! Honestly, I can already tell that this is going to be high up on my favorites list for this year. I can't wait for the sixth book in the series, although I am also quite sad that our adventure will soon coe to an end.
