Description

For as long as I could remember, Theodore West was in my life as the support system I needed when my parents were too busy building our family’s future. He offered me shoes to dance on, a shoulder to absorb my tears, and the harsh reality of where my life was leading when I was at my lowest point. And when the future my parents planned derailed after a statewide scandal, I had no choice but to fantasize about one for myself that didn’t involve them. But Theo? He was always in it. My father’s best friend. The man who would undoubtedly end me if I didn’t end him first.

Dnf at 45% I liked the story overall, Adele’s character was very interesting and so was the world building BUT I couldn’t handle the fact that the love interest is a guy who isn’t only 18 years older but he was also her father’s best friend and a father figure she looked up to her WHOLE LIFE. That guy watched here being a child AND becoming a woman. Disgusting. If we ignore those two facts for a second, there was NO tension between these two characters because they already got involved before the book even started, so they already acted like a married couple (with some serious issues). Boring. Edit: After putting some time between me and the book I realized how weird it was from the author to say, that Adele always felt this deep and intense bond between herself and the mmc (forgot his name already) even when she was still a young kid and he in his mid twenties. Which CHILD has so intense thoughts about a guy who is 18 YEARS older and a father figure? Right. No child. Wtf.
