Lesbian romance with a twist done right.
Haley cass was an interesting discover, and lead me down the lesbian romance. What Haley didn't do well however was play on the circumstances with lawyer and polition plotlines. Lee Winter however has this all figured out. The lesbian story around two charming actress and their secret gay life as a potential impacting force on their career aswell as the discovery of each others feelings and the attraction to one another is well told throughout the entirety. A bonus is that the discovery takes longer than the juicy page long descriptions which is nice. Surprise discovery, thanks for entertaining me!
Tropes: – Hollywood – co-stars in the same TV drama – grumpy x sunshine – introvert x extrovert – age gap
This book is for all those who‘ve read “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo“, and wanted to read another sapphic Hollywood themed book ever since (and yes, I‘m one of you) Breaking Character centers around Elizabeth Thornton who is one of the star actresses in a medical drama series, and hates her role and how people villainize her for it in her daily life. And to me she is such a relateable character – hardly anyone sees that her reserved posture arises not from arrogance but from shyness and being private, and I think that‘s something shy people often have to deal with: being judged for something beyond their control, and being judged for being themselves. I do like it a lot how this book addresses this topic. Summer, the other FMC, is also a character I instantly connected with. She is such a kind soul, and the way these two get into each others orbit rather by accident is just so very sweet, but doesn‘t necessarily have this rom com-ish approach many sapphic stories have. I like this a lot, and I‘m also head over heels in love with the Hollywood setting. 4/5⭐️ 🌶️/5

4.5⭐ The first Lee Winter book I read and I really enjoyed it. For some reason it took me a bit to get into the writing. No idea why. But once I did I really enjoyed it. I really liked the main characters and the plot. I also really enjoyed the writing so I'm definitely picking up the other books by this author. And I'm a huge fan of slow burn. But something was missing which is why I "only" gave it 4.5 Stars. I think I just wanted more cute scenes between Elizabeth and summer. You know...scenes that make you blush. This book didn't really have that for me. But I did laugh a few times which is a good thing since I rarely do that when I'm reading. Honestly this book could have been 200 pages longer and I would still have enjoyed it. Maybe even more than I did. I also learned I'm a huge fan of the whole celebrity romance thing. Definitely gonna be looking for more books like this.
