Description

“Marvelous . . . [Vonnegut] wheels out all the complaints about America and makes them seem fresh, funny, outrageous, hateful and lovable.”—The New York Times

In Breakfast of Champions, one of Kurt Vonnegut’s most beloved characters, the aging writer Kilgore Trout, finds to his horror that a Midwest car dealer is taking his fiction as truth. What follows is murderously funny satire, as Vonnegut looks at war, sex, racism, success, politics, and pollution in America and reminds us how to see the truth.

“Free-wheeling, wild and great . . . uniquely Vonnegut.”—Publishers Weekly

140 pages deep into the book, I realised that I saw the film for this movie as a kid? Did my parents even try to supervise me?

I love Vonneguts Cat's Craddle, Slaughterhouse Five and Mother Night. Breakfast of Champions, however, was like gibberish from a confused old white man (haha, vagina, haha n*****). After a third of the book I couldn't endure this nonsense any more. Maybe it used to be funny in the 70s but today it would probably end up in the trash if Vonneguts name wasn't so well-known.
