I was searching for some books like The Vampire Diaries and the author pitched this as TVD but from the POV of Bonnie Bennett if she ended up with Damon. So I bought it. And then I saw all the comments here that compared it to Twilight... And let me tell you, this was not like TVD. At the start it had the same Vibe but that was it. The whole university setting and the mystery of old folklore and supernatural being around the protagonist was totally up my ally. I liked the way that she saw weird things and the mystery around her mom. I read the first 50% fairly quickly and then it all went down hill. The "love triangle" annoyed me so much because it was obvious who was the authors favorite and even though I liked the main guy at first, he started to annoy me at some point. The other guy barely had any scenes and had no personality. As soon as some stuff was revealed in the middle of the book, I started to get annoyed because everytime some plot tension was build, the author ruined it by going off topic. For example when they were being chased in the car and talked about the folkore tales her mom told her and the guy hinted that there must be a reason why her mother knew that was not normal. And then they randomly start to talk about something else completely that bored me to tears only to go back to the topic after almost 10 pages of some other stuff that didn't interest me at all. And there were many situations like that where it felt like something big was about to be revealed and then the author delayed it forceably. Like why?! The ending then totally threw me off because after not that much was revealed during the book, all the stuff happened at the end and the pacing felt a little off. Like the main character didn't even know that werewolves existed 50% into the book and then you rush all the lore in the last 10% and make this big backstory up that was never talked about before. Also, fated mates again? Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but that always feels to me like it takes the choice away from the woman and forces her in many cases with someone who wronged her before and it's depicted as okay because they are mates. It never feels like he changes for her alone but only because they are mates. Overall I liked the idea to the book but the pacing was off and because of that the ending bothered me. There was so much good build up in the first 60% just to rush everything later for shock value instead of pacing it in a good way and making the book satisfying.
