Jeffery Archer ends all his Clifton chronicles novels in their best cliffhanger moments. Its a good way to stay in someone's mind but it can become irritating as well. So my suggestion is to always skip the last chapter and read it only when you have the next book. Having said that the master is at work. All the revenge, betrayals, murders and boardroom suspense should have become stale to Jeffery's readers but surprisingly it is not so. He keeps serving you the same dish but it is so good that he gets away with it every time and you keep ordering from the large menu with multiple names for the same item.

Dieser ist im März 2014 im St. Martins Press Verlag erschienen. Auf deutsch erscheint der 4. Teil am 12.09.2016 unter dem Namen „Im Schatten unserer Wünsche“ im Heyne-Verlag. Bristol, 1957: Wir schließen direkt an den Geschehnissen aus Band 3 und erfahren ob Sebastian Clifton den Autounfall zusammen mit seinem besten Freund Bruno überlebt hat. Don Pedro Martinez hat sich seiner persönlichen Vendetta gegen die Cliftons und Barringtons total verschrieben und so kommt es beim Bau der MV Buckingham zu einigen Turbulenzen. Giles Barrington arbeitet weiter an seiner politischen Karriere und möchte unbedingt in Kabinett kommen. Dieser 4 Teil gefiel mir wieder gut, allerdings gab es diesmal für mich auch einige Längen. Dennoch wurde es gerade zum Ende hin wieder so spannend, dass man das Buch kaum aus der Hand legen konnte und von daher bin ich mir ziemlich sicher, dass ich demnächst auch den 5. Teil dieser Reihe lesen werden. Der Erzählstil hat sich ein wenig verändert. Die Geschichte wird immer noch aus der Sichtweise verschiedener Protagonisten erzählt, die Zeiträume überschneiden sich, wenn überhaupt, aber nur kurz. Die Geschichte wird jetzt also eher kontinuierlich weiter erzählt. Gerade in diesem Teil merkt man auch sehr, dass es sich um eine Familiengeschichte handelt und nicht um einen historischen Roman, dennoch merkt man an den Themen, wie die Zeit voranschreitet und moderner wird. Emma Clifton beispielsweise ist ein wichtiges Mitglied des Vorstandes der Barrington Shipping Company. Sehr interessant fand ich auch den Umstand, dass zu dieser Zeit nicht unbedingt der Abschluss an einer Uni ausschlaggebend für eine Karriere war, sondern dass man es auch ohne Uni-Abschluss zu etwas bringen konnte, wenn man die richtigen Talente hatte. Heutzutage ist sowas eher unwahrscheinlich. Fazit: Insgesamt also wieder ein sehr interessanter Roman rund um die Barringtons und Cliftons, auch wenn ich diesmal erst zum Schluss richtig mitgefiebert habe. Ich vergebe 3 Sterne, da dies für mich, der bisher schwächste Teil ist.
