New Earl x Ex-Smuggler secretary
A great sequel and another nice book from KJ Charles. I even liked it a bit more than the first volume, even though not that much happened, but I didn't mind. I just loved the vibes and characters, and thought the family drama was interesting π Rufus just became the Earl of Oxney, in Romney Marsh, though his uncle Conrad, who thought he would be the next Earl, tries to question his claim any time he can. Luke Doomsday gets mixed up in this because he has his own reason to be at Stone manor, but soon finds himself as Rufus' secretary to help him bring order to his neglected estate. Enjoying the work and being near Rufus, he soon finds himself not spending that much time on his actual goal... I don't know why what he was doing was treated as a bit of a mystery since we know that from volume one, which you should definitely read before. This one takes place many years after it, and at one point, Luke basically tells Rufus everything that happened at the end of volume 1, which would be a huge spoiler if you hadn't read it. While we are already at things that didn't make sense (which aren't many, as I have hardly anything to criticize), the title is a bit weird. While Rufus is a nobleman now, he hasn't been for long, nor is he really acting like one or would have any experience doing anything as such, least of all giving a guide to something. And he isn't the one doing the seducing. That was Luke, aka "the scoundrel." All of the seduction on Rufus' side was accidental π Anyway, I really liked the portrayal of the class difference again. As I said, Rufus hasn't been the Earl for long, and Luke has a lot of control over things as his secretary. I loved how he handled everything π That was also what the story was mostly about: getting the estate in order and with that the family drama. There was also a bit more drama in the relationship department, but that didn't take too long to solve. I really liked their dynamic β€οΈ
