I kind of expected a cozy little fantasy with low stakes. Instead, Heather Fawcett pulled me into a clash of religions, politics, and belief systems... in just 35 pages. Honestly, how? The amount of worldbuilding packed into this story left me completely speechless. There is history, conflict, faith, and the feeling that every sentence hints at something much larger beneath the surface. I especially loved the references to the eighty-three (or eighty-four by some measures) goddesses and gods. I wanted to stop every other page and ask for more. Tell me about all of them. It's remarkable how complete the story feels while simultaneously making it obvious that there is so much more waiting beyond its pages. At this point, Heather Fawcett has become one of those authors for me. If she writes it, I will read it.
