I read and finished this book, because of everyone saying book two and the ascended where worth it. And if I'm honest, that's the only reason. The writing is really simple an minimalistic. The story felt empty, with very little worldbuilding and more questions then answers. The charakters - with a few exceptions - felt a little flat. Choices lacked logic and reason. I liked how the book started, the beginning felt unique an intriguing, but for the remaining part of the book, the pacing felt really slow. I also didn't like the relationship between the FMC and MMC very much. The ending was a surprise and actually got me a little excited for Duskbound!

Poorly written and very shallow. Everything happens instantly, without logic or buildup. The characters’ choices make little sense to me most of the time. I only finished it because everyone insists the next book and The Ascendent are worth it. I really hope that’s true.
