About the book

It started with a letter. It ended with a love story.

Every December, Josie posts a letter from her home in London to the parents she lost on Christmas night many years ago. Each year, she writes the same three words: Missing you, always. But this year, her annual trip to the postbox is knocked off course by a bicycle collision with a handsome stranger--a stranger who will change the course of Josie's life.

Josie always thought she was the only one who avoided the Christmas season, but this year, Max has his own reasons for doing the same--and coincidence leads them to spending the holiday together. Aglow with new love, Josie thinks this might be the start of something special.

Only for Max to disappear without saying goodbye.

Over the course of the next year, Max and Josie will find that fate continues to bring them together in places they'd never expect. New York City. Edinburgh. The quiet English countryside. And it turns out, Max had every reason to leave and every reason to stay. But what does fate hold for Josie and Max as Christmas approaches again?

A devastating, romantic, life-affirming love story, Always, in December will stay with readers long after they've finished the last page.

It’s about Josie, who writes letters to her deceased parents every December, and a chance collision with a stranger, Max, leading to an intense, fate-driven love story across London, New York, and the countryside, exploring grief, loss, and finding unexpected joy, even as Max mysteriously disappears, forcing them to confront deep secrets and their future.

What the fuck was that. Wow. First things first as always with my reviews, this is gonna contain spoilers‼️. I’ll start by introducing our characters first - we have Josie, our almost thirty year old woman who has a hard time during Christmasses due to her parents passing on Christmas Eve when she was just 9 years old. She has her own little tradition - with her parents, it was walking up to the postbox to leave her Christmas wishes for Santa - now, it’s writing a letter for her parents. Then we have our thirty/thirty-one year old Max, who is stuck in London because of his cancelled flight. Him and Josie have a-not-so-meet-cute - she crashed into him with her bike, causing them to fall down together, which I absolutely loved😭. They had REALLY great chemistry together throughout this whole story. Bia's, Laura’s and Josie’s friendship was very wholesome. The story moves forward with pretty big time skips of months constantly - but in a way that’s not confusing or weird, I think it was very well done. Oliver (Josie’s Ex) was a shithead for cheating on her and I still don’t understand why Josie took him back again to 'try' and see if they both can ‘change' to make it work - cause ones a cheater always a cheater - when they separated for good, he didn’t cheat on her at least, they both chose to stop it so good for them at least? I was very sus of Erin at first (Max's on-and-off thing since university, especially since it seemed like she still wants him) that she’s gonna be an evil bitch or something but I guess they really just decided to stay good friends at the end. I was so worried about Memo (Josie’s grandma) that she was going to die when she suddenly got into hospital and needed to do heart surgery. I thought that this was going to be a cliche, happy, holiday rom-com but NO - that would’ve been to good to be true, huh?! Max fucking died because of some Bitchass inoperable brain tumor that was confirmed just before he met Josie the first time. I sobbed. Even though he wanted to tell her himself several times, she didn’t get to hear it from him.. only through a letter. In the end, she writes a letter for her parents and one for Max, finally telling him 'I love you’ back, that she never got to tell him😭😭😭. The story itself was beautifully written. So yeah, to sum it all up, this was absolutely diabolical.
