Description
Armani Nnandi was always the good girl.
She was always the girl with the perfect grades, the one who never broke the rules and almost never went out. She thrived off of academic validation always striving for the top spot and nothing less. Her parents expected nothing less of perfection from her and she'd always known it, what kind of daughter would she be if she were to ever let them down?
But what happens when she gets cast away to one of the most prestigious art academies in France all on her own, no parents, no rules and all the freedom she could've ever asked for. But rumor has it that something’s not quite right at St Kathrines, that there’s doors opening past midnight, pathways that lead to nowhere and hushed secrets. Armani is about to learn that sometimes the skeletons hidden in one’s closet tend to resurrect.
Armani made herself and her parents one simple promise, no boys until after college. But that was until she found herself entangled in the beautiful chaos that was her art class rival River Kennedy. It was clear that he was one of God's favorites, with silvery blue eyes and looks that could kill—he was art. But every masterpiece has a story behind it, and River's happened to be crashing into him and drowning him all at once.

I saw the author of this book promote it on instagram so that’s why I read it. Now I kinda wish I hadn’t. The story in itself was promising. The setting was interesting and the characters were diverse. An elite art school in France and (sort of) academic rivals looks good enough at first glance, right? Well, that may be true, but there are other parts to a book, like the spelling and grammar for example. I almost can’t believe that somebody has proofread this. There were so many spelling mistakes, wrong commas or question signs and also translation mistakes. If you’re talking to a friend - or your LOVER - in french, you DON’T use ‘vous’. I can’t fathom how a story can be published like this. It feels like it’s just the first, unedited draft. There definitely should’ve been a lot of editing before publishing this. I had to force myself to constantly overlook those mistakes in order to follow the plot. I kept on hoping throughout the whole book that it would get better. The story wasn’t even that bad but I do think that it wasn’t necessary for it to be 470 pages long. This book could’ve easily been 200 pages shorter and there wouldn’t have been a great loss in my eyes. For the amount this book annoyed me it took me definitely too long to read. I’m a little mad at myself for not just putting it down and dnf-ing it. I think that would’ve made me much happier. Unfortunately I can’t recommend it.
