funny and cute. nice to read.

I don’t even know what to say? Definitely not my cup of tea. I certainly felt a lot of rage when she let that man live with her like she barely even knew him, what if he was some kind of psychopath and killed her? Maybe I’m paranoid but you can never be too cautious I guess. I’m glad that this was a short book and not a whole novel, so I didn’t waste more time on this.

A year ago my wife, a friend of ours and me decided to read this in a book club, but it turned out pretty fast, that this is definetly not suitable for a bookclub, which led to parting ways and none of us finishing it..even we all kinda liked it. I picked it up again after another friend of mine suggested it too, noting that there will be a big twist towards the end. I must have missed it

3 stars. I didn't kn0w where this book was going and I still don't know after finishing it. Kind of underwhelming. I had hoped it would somehow be/do more but I can't really explain it.

i think it was definitely an interesting read with actually valid takes on society through the eyes of someone who doesn’t have the ability to understand those nuances (honestly i get it. the book makes you laugh about conversations and expectations that we are waaaaay too used to)

Rating: 3.5 POV of a woman who doesn't understand societal norms who just wants to work in a convenience store without judgement from her peers and sister, who all deem her to not be 'normal'.

This book was really interesting. I am not sure I have ever read anything quite like it, and I'm not sure if it was the specific author or if it is that I haven't read much from Japanese writers. The protagonist is a very logical person, which I liked at first, but then her logic goes to some extremes that startled me. I found the book frustrating at times, because I wanted to jump in and tell her why the choices she was making were wrong, but ultimately I respected her conclusions.

Interesting. Still really can’t find words to describe this… [edit] I don't know. I think that sums it up, quite nicely. This book was positively blunt with what it was trying to convey yet it was confusing nonetheless. I feel like maybe my personal confusion was rooted in said bluntness of the story. Because the plot is quite transparent; yet my brain kept thinking: okay, yeah, are we going to dive deeper into this, etc. but that didn't affect my reading experience in a negative way; in fact I think it made it more interesting. I liked the honesty of the story as well as its simplicity. A nice, honest quick read, about living in a society that rejects your character simply because it doesn't fit in a specific type of mold.

As someone who stayed in Japan for a long time it was surprisingly nice to be reminiscent of being back in a convenience store. I especially enjoyed the detailed descriptions of the sounds. Anyhow the main point of the book is about societal norms and how they are forced upon us. Especially neurodivergent people often feel a lot of pressure since society condemns anyone who is 'different'. The main character surely falls into that category and I could relate with many of her troubles.

3.5 - this one mirrored my perspective on existing as a woman in the 21st century perfectly.

Very slice of life not to much read!
