With sports romances it is sometimes a hit or miss thing. I have read enough by now that offer a great romance arc with just a sprinkle of sports in it, but I am here for the sports too. So I grabbed this one, knowing that I loved Bowen's and Kennedy's writing styles in the past. Both authors write fantastic stories that I have enjoyed so far. And yeah, I know, I now really have to read HIM and US (I will, it is on the TBR). Jamie and Wesley play a big enough role in this book too, and they are just as loveable as Good Boy's protagonists Jess and Blake. The story introduces us to Jess Canning, wedding planner and maid of honour for her brother Jamie’s wedding. The latter's fiancé chose none other than NHL player Blake Riley to be his best man, who happens to be the guy Jess hooked up with once. While she thinks of it as a "we have done this once, no need to repeat" thing, Blake is definitely more persistent. Their relationship is hilarious from the start. Although it is obvious they both like each other, Blake is a big goof and Jess is resistant to anything coming between her and her aim to become a nurse. They simply drive each other crazy, but their chemistry is off the charts. I love their banter and how they bought out the best in each other. Jess is a fantastic and relatable character from the start, although her drive to become a nurse, the heart and soul she puts into it, is what makes her even more interesting. I understand that some readers might see Blake as annoying, but I thought he was great. He supports Jess in whatever ways he can, has great family values and a heart of gold. Overall, this story was fun, putting equal efforts into the sports and romance aspects, to my mind. No need to gush about how much I love the writing in general (both authors are just great at that). I read this book in one go and have already put more on the TBR. It surely was not an all laughs book, but there was just enough emotion to still make it an enjoyable read.
