About the book

"A ravishing little romance of the undead that's guaranteed to warm - and break - your heart, even as it chills your blood." - New York Times

A dark and visceral coming-of-age vampire love story, based on the acclaimed novel and film.

Oskar is a bullied, lonely, teenage boy living with his mother on a housing estate at the edge of town, when a spate of sinister killings rocks the neighborhood. Eli is the young girl who has just moved in next door. She doesn't go to school and never leaves the flat by day. Sensing in each other a kindred spirit, the two become devoted friends. What Oskar doesn't know is that Eli has been a teenager for a very long time.

Jack Thorne's adaptation of Let The Right One In premiered in June 2013 at the Dundee Rep Theatre in a production by the National Theatre of Scotland, before transferring to London's Royal Court Theatre in November 2013. It was the winner of the South Bank Sky Arts Award for Theatre, 2014.

"Extraordinary... Sets new standards in atmospheric scariness... Takes you to the edge of human experience with eye-opening candour, beauty and ingenuity." - WhatsOnStage

"Astonishing... at once beautifully intimate and bedazzingly epic." - Time Out (London)

"Exquisitely beautiful and heartbreakingly sad... so painfully tender that, as you watch the show, it feels as if layers of your skin are gradually being flayed from your body." - Guardian

"Remarkable... gratifyingly scary... dark and striking." - Telegraph

"Moving and haunting... a rich and beautiful theatrical experience that is by turns gripping and tender." - Herald

"A chilling and moving piece of theatre, full of pain, terror and unexpected moments of comedy." - Scotsman

Dark and unsettling. Vampires and Death.

》ᴛʜᴀᴛ ᴛɪᴍᴇ ꜱʜᴇ ʜᴀᴅ ᴀʟꜱᴏ ᴡᴀʟᴋᴇᴅ ᴀʀᴏᴜɴᴅ ᴀɴᴅ ᴀʀᴏᴜɴᴅ ᴀꜱ ɪꜰ ᴛʜᴇʀᴇ ᴡᴀꜱ ɴᴏᴛ ᴀ ꜱɪɴɢʟᴇ ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇ ᴏɴ ᴇᴀʀᴛʜ ᴡʜᴇʀᴇ ʜᴇʀ ʙᴏᴅʏ ᴄᴏᴜʟᴅ ʀᴇꜱᴛ, ᴡʜᴇʀᴇ ɪᴛ ᴅɪᴅɴ'ᴛ ʜᴜʀᴛ.《 I vaguely remembered watching the swedish movie adaptation of this book a long, long time ago. Most of the plot was lost to me at this point, but I remembered how dark and uneasy it had been. What better place to hide is there for vampires, than the long dark winters of Sweden? Let the Right One In is not your usual vampire story. It's about two isolated and mistreated children, who form an unlikely friendship. It's about broken people and their every day struggle to make ends meet.. or their slow decay as they have already given up and drown their sorrows in alcohol instead. It's about a predator who has also become a slave. About cruel bullies and broken adults. This book tells a brutal but fascinating story. It's thrilling and disgusting, with a very bleak and heavy atmosphere. But there is the occasional scene that will make you chuckle. The humour is used sparsely, but just in the right way. There are a lot of different POVs to follow, each more broken and messed up than the next. Every single character in this story has issues. Some fight to get out of it, while others have already accepted their fate. It's an intense and uncomfortable read, but very much worth it. Content Warning: p*dophilia, SA, body mutilation
