About the book

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

I guess sometimes solving a mystery makes you wish you wouldn’t have found the answer. This was impossible to put down. Thrilling story, engaging and very realistic-seeming characters. The translator should’ve kept „men who hate women“ as the title. —— SPOILERS UNDERNEATH —— What is most realistic about this is that even though they found out that two men were serial rapists and murderers, they decided to keep going as though nothing had happened. In a way, there’s a happy ending, with Blomkwist getting his Wennerström story. But it really doesn’t feel like it. It’s a success, sure. But it’s not… happy. Too much had happened to him and Salander, and too much is still happening between them. It wouldn’t have been fitting for all this tension to suddenly have been resolved, but it still feels so frustrating, putting down a finished book with so many unfinished emotional wounds in mind. Guess I’ll have to read the sequel.

A solid 4.5⭐️. I literally stayed up for 24hrs to finish this book, and I might just go another 24hrs and make it 48 so I can finish the second book. Basically this book made me a hostage. I really didn't want to read it because of all the hype about the movie and story and I felt like I wouldn't enjoy it but this was really intriguing. The start was slow but it got interesting after 30%. I loved how in essence this was two mysteries in one. I kinda speculated in the beginning what had happened to Harriet but I was so wrong!! I think the 4 stars are with respect to how the story would have played out had Salander been a relative and Harriet her mother. I wonder how that would have played out. All in all definitely a fan!
