I read this book before visiting Edinburgh in December and it turned out to be the perfect choice. The book is a charming and unusual journey through the history of Edinburgh told from the perspective of a cat. 🐾 The cat narrator Grimalkin roams the city through different time periods, observing people, places and events with curiosity, wit and very funny commentary. I absolutely loved the Edinburgh setting. The city’s dark closes and rich history come alive in such a vivid way. Learning about Edinburgh through the eyes of a cat felt both informative and incredibly entertaining. I also enjoyed the footnotes which gave added information. The way the cat comments on human behaviour and notices the changes in the city over time is funny, touching, clever and often thought provoking. Overall, this was a really enjoyable read. Cozy and different from anything else I’ve read recently. 🐈 This book is perfect for lovers of Edinburgh, history and of course… cats.

2.5
