About the book

'A beacon of hope in a dark world' Cathy Rentzenbrink, The Pool

One night in November 2015, when Antoine Leiris was at home looking after his baby son, his wife Hélène was killed, along with 88 other people, at the Bataclan Theatre in Paris. Three days later, Antoine wrote an open letter to his wife's killers on Facebook. He refused to be cowed or to let his baby son's life be defined by their acts. 'For as long as he lives, this little boy will insult you with his happiness and freedom,' he wrote. Instantly, that short post caught fire and was shared thousands of times around the world. An extraordinary and heartbreaking memoir, You Will Not Have My Hate is a universal message of hope and resilience in our troubled times.

My heart goes out to Antoine Leiris. The world needs people like him. This little book paints his train of thoughts and leads us through the nightmare he and his baby son were dragged into, as well as their journey into their new, different life. It moved me to tears. The language is poetic, the staccato-esque pace makes the experience episodic. His loss, grief and disorientation are suffocating. His iron will, determination and dedication give me hope, that there's a way to soldier through such a tradegy.

this book has a very powerful message. i do not know how the writer has the strength to not also give the terrorists his hate. i believe we can all learn a lot from him and his reaction about the awful tragedy he had to endure. it was a very real, heartfelt book about life after such an unfair loss. the honesty was remarkable. the book by itself isn‘t groundbreaking but the context and message behind it, is. i hope his little family is safe and happy now.
