Description
Lane is in the middle of an identity crisis. Her friends are all partnered up, her career is leading nowhere, and simply put, she’s not happy. So after a night out celebrating (drinking) on her birthday, she makes one hell of an impulsive purchase. A giant yellow forty-eight passenger school bus that she intends to make a home.
With little-to-no renovation experience but a large sum of inheritance money, Lane enlists the help of her friend Matt—a mechanic by trade, handyman by practice, and hottie by nature.
While their mutual attraction is undeniable, Matt and Lane have silently agreed that a friendship is the only thing that can ever exist between them. Matt’s a total family guy with “settle down with me” tattooed across his forehead, whereas Lane is entirely commitment-averse.
So when Matt offers to help her with the bus and in the bedroom with no strings attached, Lane’s feelings evolve faster than you can say “just good friends.” But she soon discovers that in order to build something new, she has to first heal her past.
"A fresh story with whip-smart humor, delicious steam, and an abundance of heart!" -Tarah DeWitt, Author of Rootbound, Funny Feelings & The Co-Op "Next to You is an absolute outstanding piece of writing. I laughed, I cried, I swooned, I grieved, I was swept away by emotion in all it's raw glory. " - Goodreads User
Content Warnings:
-Sudden death of parent from car accident, Grief, Anxiety/PTSD symptoms and treatments, conversation about infertility (in bonus epilogue)

Okay sooo I think I’ll give it 4.5 Stars!! It was a very good book and I liked it. I especially liked the two main characters Lane and Matt (their full names are Elaine and Mattheus). Lane buys her own bus with inheritance money she had from her father and made it her mission to renovate it into a home. Matt, a friend of hers, helped her to renovate it and he’s a mechanic with Warren (their mutual friend). They always had the chemistry and connection and it started with a little kiss on New Years. I liked how their friendship bloomed into something more,it was very cute to read. They both have a mutual friend group so both of them (especially Lane) were scared what would happen if it didn’t happen to work out between them. Their friends Chloe,Emilie,Warren and Amos were already in happy relationships (Warren & Chloe and Amos & Emilie) so Lane felt quite lonely. Matt has always liked her but agreed to have a situationship with her. Lane was struggling with grief so it took a lot of time and therapy for them to get in a relationship but they got engaged directly. I found her confessing her love really cute, the big messy entrance and everything 😭 (it was raining and everything so she was completely wet and full of mud) and I really liked that she proposed to Matt, it was nice of a change. After she proposed Matt proposed to her back LMFAO. I also really liked their familys. Lane and her twin sister Liz weren’t very close but I’m glad they sold their problems out and have a better relationship now. Matt’s family is very big, he has EIGHT siblings but their family dynamic was very very cute. I'm quite sad because my hair dye splattered a little on my book so I was quite sad and angry🥲. Overall, this book was very good and the smut was also nice to read & the book was just generally good written. This was my last book of 2024. What a year that was!

Absolute Leseempfehlung 💜
