Keeper of Enchanted Rooms (Whimbrel House, Band 1)

Nach vielen dramatischen Weltrettungs-Romantasys wollte ich es gern zur Abwechslung etwas gemütlicher und wurde fündig. Wir haben es mit einer alternativen Welt Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts zu tun, in der Magie noch nicht ganz verschwunden ist, auch wenn sie nur noch in wenigen Familien vorkommt. Hulda arbeitet für BIKER, das Boston Institute for the Keeping of Enchanted Rooms. Es gibt nicht mehr viele dieser magischen Häuser und sie ist froh über die Chance, in Whimbrel House als Haushälterin beginnen zu können. Nicht weniger froh ist Merritt Fernsby, der neue Besitzer, denn Whimbrel House ist zunächst alles andere als entgegenkommend, setzt ihn gefangen und spielt ihm Streiche. Während Hulda den Geheimnissen des verzauberten Hauses auf die Spur kommt, fühlen sich Merritt und sie ganz langsam zueinander hingezogen. Im Hintergrund lauert dabei ein mächtiger Feind. Ich mochte das Worldbuilding sehr, da es nicht sonderlich komplex oder fremd war, bin ich schnell reingekommen. Hulda und Merritt sind glaubwürdige und sympathische Charaktere. Die nächsten Teile werde ich sicher auch lesen. Die vier Bände sind über Klndle Unlimited zu lesen.

So ein wundervolles Buch. Hulda erinnert mich an eine Mischung aus beiden Tanten von Sabrina. Hilda und Zelda. Eine schöne Geschichte. Empfehle ich wirklich gerne.

What a cute and cozy read! I picked up „ Keeper of Enchanted Rooms“ by Charlie N. Holmberg from a recommendation about cozy fantasy reads. And let me say this: I was not disappointed! In this novel we follow three points of view. They are a man inheriting a magical house and a professional magical housekeeper with the task to help him find the magic source in said house. I loved the dynamic and soft romance between the two. The way they got to know each other was really sweet and slow. I don’t want to say much about the third POV character since there was some intrigue of how he would play into the story and I don’t want to spoil anything. The funny thing is, I actually recently read „The Paper Magician“ by the same author and did not like it at all. Only after being half way through the book I paid attention to the author and was shocked that this was written by the same person. I really have to emphasize that Charlie Holmberg significantly improved in terms of intrigue, romance and storytelling with „ Keeper of Enchanted Rooms“. This really inspired me to give other authors a didn’t like a second chance!
