Description

Out of Dynamite Entertainment's critically acclaimed title, The Boys, comes a special story featuring everyone's favorite pint-sized Scotsman, Hughie, with The Boys: Highland Laddie, written by Garth Ennis, with covers by Darick Robertson and art by Herogasm artist John McCrea. Mind reeling from cataclysmic events in New York, Wee Hughie heads home to Auchterladle - the semi-idyllic Scottish seaside town where he grew up. All Hughie wants is some time to himself, to return to the bosom of family and friends, and get his head together after two years of unimaginable chaos. But our hero's luck has always been more cloud than silver lining, and the familiar surroundings he craves are not all they might be. Old pals are warped beyond recognition, strangers in town are up to no good, and a figure from Hughie's recent past has come back to resolve some unfinished business. You can go home again - but whether or not you should is another matter entirely. The Boys, Vol. 8: Highland Laddie collects issues 1-6 of the hit mini-series, The Boys: Highland Laddie by Garth Ennis and John McCrea, and features all of the covers by The Boys co-creator, Darick Robertson!

Rating: 0/5 At this point, you might be asking why I keep reading these comics. The only reason is that I like the show & want to understand the source material. Otherwise, I would've stopped if not long ago at the very latest with this volume or more like DNFd it. This volume is not only so extremely boring it also continues handling SA so poorly it is wild. Besides that in this volume Ennis also tried his hand at writing a trans character, which is so insanely bad and offensive it is wow.. & this is not due to me being stuck up but seriously this is just downright bad writing. There is no glimpse of you could spin this somehow & see how it is supposed to be anything but bad, anything but blatant transphobia. If you don't care about any of this might I interest you in the terrible handling of animal abuse? Because yes of course Ennis also incorporated this in his quest to show how there is not a single topic he handled in a good way - good in the sense that it's interesting, has depth. All you get from the animal abuse scene is it immediately being excused because Hughie was a kid & so Annie literally says "Hughie, all little kids are psychos! You gave into it once, big deal!" Ah how much I hate this series. Still going to power through the end & then blacklist everything that has Ennis's name on it. Life is too short to read boring and just plain bad stuff like his.
