Loved the story. Loved the characters too. I cried twice I think. Uhm, yeah. There are some things that just bother me. But personal preferences and all. Like it being set in the 80s. Not really a huge problem though. Like thinking of my mom as Rory. I like to picture myself as the character most of the time. Uhm and well I may have been fussing about the ages, because I thought Soline was just about in her late 50s. But that could not be. So I tried to trace things back, then thought nah. I shall just leave it as it is. A lovely story, but not one that will stick.
In dem Buch "Der Stoff, aus dem das Glück ist" von Barbara Davis werden die zwei Geschichten von Soline und Rory erzählt. Soline ist während des zweiten Weltkriegs aus Frankreich in die USA geflohen und musste sich dort durchkämpfen. Auch Rory, einige Jahre später, hat mit demselben Verlust ihrer Liebe zu kämpfen und so nähern sich die beiden an. Der Roman erzählt parallel die Geschichten beider Protagonisten. Es ist viel mehr ein Schicksalsroman anstatt ein klassischer Liebesroman, aber auch die Liebe kommt nicht zu kurz. Die Erzählweise war meistens sehr flüssig aber stellenweise wurde die Geschichte, meiner Meinung nach, auch zu sehr aufgebläht. Gerade mit Soline fiebert man mit währenddessen Rory etwas blass erscheint. Es gibt viele Wendungen, teils auch vorhersehbar. Unter dem Titel stellt man sich leider etwas anderes vor, denn um Stoffe geht es in dem Buch nicht wirklich und auch der Aspekt, wie man Glück findet, ist nicht wirklich behandelt worden. Alles in Allem ist das Buch aber ein toller, spannender Roman mit vielen Überraschungen. Man fiebert mit den Protagonisten mit und freut sich am Ende über deren Glück.
