About the book

Who are you becoming? That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. By outward metrics, everything appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren't pretty. So he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: 'Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life.' It wasn't the response he expected, but it continues to be the answer he needs.

Too often we treat the symptoms of toxicity in our modern world instead of trying to pinpoint the cause. A growing number of voices are pointing at hurry, or busyness as a root of much evil. Within the pages of this book, you'll find a compelling emotional and spiritual case against hurry and in favour of a slower, simpler way of life.

Just one of these Instagram-recommendations. I barely knew why I had that on my list. I always had a tendency to just get all books I get recommended, about self improvement, life hacks, and advice literature to happily live your life. I promised to stop that. This book was a relapse. A very happy one! This was the best book of this kind I ever read. Very unexpectedly! Comer is a priest and uses his teaching of Jesus to transport his rules to unhurry life. I did not know this and on the first pages I feared that this book may by too much loaded with religion and spiritually. But in fact, this worked really well. Obviously, I am not very literate in Jesus and his teachings. Because I was very much surprised how much wisdom you can find in the Gospels and Psalms. Really interesting! What Comer preaches (🤣 - wordplay) is not revolutionary but how he transports the message is fun and entertaining. In the typical American, anecdotal way. But in a very personal and warm and interesting way. He gives four strategies: silence&solitude, sabbath, simplicity and slowing. This makes sense and he has some practical tipps. The book sat with me for a while. Indeed, I now try to implement some tipps into my life. Normally, I read these books and forget about them. This was different this time. Very nice book discovery!
