About the book

*NOW A NETFLIX SERIES* In this spine-tingling next book of the Lockwood & Co series, the ghost-hunting gang take on terrifying new challenges. Five months after the events in The Creeping Shadow, we join Lockwood, Lucy, George, Holly, and their associate Quill Kipps on a perilous night mission: they have broken into the booby-trapped Fittes Mausoleum, where the body of the legendary psychic heroine Marissa Fittes lies. Or does it? This is just one of the many questions to be answered in Book 5 of the Lockwood & Co. series. Will Lockwood ever reveal more about his family's past to Lucy? Will their trip to the Other Side leave Lucy and Lockwood forever changed? Will Penelope Fittes succeed in shutting down their agency forever? The young agents must survive attacks from foes both spectral and human before they can take on their greatest enemy in a climactic and chaotic battle. And to prevail they will have to rely on help from some surprising--and shadowy--allies. Jonathan Stroud once again delivers a rousing adventure full of danger, laughs, twists, and frights. The revelations will send readers back to Book 1 to start the series all over again. Exclusive to this paperback edition: a Lockwood & Co. short story, "The Dagger in the Desk," and an illustrated ghost guide.

It is just as fun, delightful and exiting as the other books in the series and also has great character moments, but suddenly the stakes are much higher and I was worried that the conclusion we needed would be too much for just one more book. I should have just trusted Stroud. He managed to unravel everything that was needed perfectly. I maybe would have changed a few small things, but other aspects were just phenomenal and this is a perfect example on how to end your series. Lucy has developed so much and everyone had a chance to shine once more. I love it.

Story: 8/10 Characters: 9/10 Style: 6/10 I love this series! The ending was just right. Not too corny, not too long (which is the fault of many good books), just suggestive enough to be happy with it and like the whole series perfectly cozy. Especially enjoyed how through the whole story George didn't drift off to the sidekick but became more important and a hero of his own. I think I'll come back to this universe one day.

The things I'd give to read this again for the first time... Obviously, I loved it. Obviously, I highly recommend it. The story had me on edge because of the question of the empty grave. Which empty grave? Whose empty grave? Save to say, anxiety was high, angst was real (I love books like that, don't judge). I also cried more than I expected because of characters I never planned to cry about (which I also love in books!). The empty Grave may be my favorite in the series. Lastly and surprisingly, this book turned me from "pls don't put more romance into the story, it's so annoying" to "this is the slowest, most subtle slow burn known to mankind and I'm so here for it omg it's perfect". Final verdict: pls read the series. It's so much fun; I'm begging you.
