About the book

Cia Vale is now seventeen and has everything she ever dreamed of: a boy she loves, a place at the University and a future as one of the leaders of the United Commonwealth. The Testing should be nothing more than a blank space in her mind; an achievement to be celebrated, and then forgotten.
But Cia remembers. As further evidence of the government's murderous programmes comes to light, Cia must choose whether to stay silent and protect herself and her loved ones, or expose The Testing for what it is. Above all, the University is a dangerous place, and Cia must remember the advice her father gave her: TRUST NO ONE.

Second instalment of this critically acclaimed futuristic trilogy.

3.5 After enjoying part one very much, part two leaves me a tiny bit disappointed. Again we have a typical middle part of a trilogy. The proceedings here are a lot slower compared to "The testing". The first half of the book is very suspenseful and great in world-building, I also liked the setting a lot, but it doesn't feel attached to the plot as a whole. The second half is a lot calmer then and preparing things for the final book. Cia is still a great heroine but I couldn't always understand her behaviour in the relationship with Tomas, especially keeping in mind what she find out at the end of book one. Despite the little disappointment I still enjoyed the book and I am so glad that I can continue with book three immediately.

Independent Study is kind of the typical second part of a dystopian trilogy. It's a nice book but I didn't like the first part of the book that much. The second half is really good. I like Cia and I'm very interested how the conclusion to the story will be. Hopefully Cia won't die.
