About the book

Chaos reigns over the City of Newham in the thrilling conclusion to the City of Nightmares duology, by critically acclaimed author Rebecca Schaeffer.

All nightmares begin as dreams.

Nineteen-year-old Ness used to be terrified of Nightmares - people who'd turned into their worst fears while they slept. Now, after two assassination attempts, an explosion, and a bargain with a demon, she's finally free of her terror.

But Nightmares aren't the only dangerous thing in Newham. And Ness still has to reckon with her other fears - including her fear of mortality. It's easy to die in Newham, but hard to live. So when the monster responsible for creating Nightmares asks her for a favour, she agrees - as long as he will turn her into an indestructible Nightmare of her choice in exchange, so she can finally feel safe.

Soon things spiral out of control. Ness finds herself in the crosshairs of enemies old and new, and this time, she can't run from her problems. If she wants to survive, she's going to have to conquer the most difficult enemy of all: herself.

I loved book 1 so much so I had high hopes. I guess this book brings the story to conclusion, but somehow I just wasn't invested. Would have loved to love it

This was a nice sequel/conclusion to this duology. Ness was little whiny throughout, though I can't really tell if it was more or less than in City of Nightmares. I also wasn't really feeling her "hero"-transformation when she decided to be all brave and strong, but that might be a me-thing. Yet again, the dialogues were the best part of the book! Brought out the likability of pretty much all of the characters. Though it's not hard to not like them (except Ness maybe). The characters are not morally grey. They just don't have any morals at all, which turned out to be even better than being morally grey! Made total sense in a city like Newham. The only part I didn't liked was the missing piece of the Nightmare Phantom's past. Generally speaking: the setting, plot and writing worked really well for this type of book/series! It's like the author wrote up some crazy scenarios, let them take place in one spot and made it make sense in a very weird, but mostly funny way. This is not a series to be taken seriously in any way. I can see people enjoying and having a great time with it!
