'Sharp, thrilling, with a hell of a bite'
K. S. Villoso

Remy Pendergast is a masterful hunter, but rumours that he's half-vampire are tarnishing his reputation among fellow Reapers. Desperate to clear his name and investigate newly mutated bloodsuckers, Remy sets out alone . . . until fate intervenes.

Enter Xiaodan Song, a kind-hearted heiress, and her arrogant lord fiancé, Zidan Malekh. While joining forces with the vampire couple may not help Remy's reputation, they hold the key to defeating the deadly creatures.

As they navigate the dangerous terrain and face new threats, Remy develops complicated feelings for the couple. With each passing day, he begins to question everything he thought he knew about vampires, including the story behind his own family legacy.

As the vampire mutation spreads throughout the kingdom, Remy must choose between loyalty to his beloved kingdom and his newfound connections with the creatures he was sworn to destroy. Will he risk it all to save those he's grown to care for?

Genre: Fantasy (Poly Vampires) Age-Range: Adult Status: Soft DNF

I had a rough start with this one. It took me almost two hundred pages to get into it. Until then it was confusing and full of info-dumping and name-dropping, felt like starting with the second book in a series. In fact, I checked if I accidentally did. It had just too many characters, places and concepts that weren't properly introduced. I couldn't really connect with the characters and for a long time Zidan Malekh was the only one that kept my interest (him, I did like a lot!). Then, something happened that took me by surprise: I started to feel the tension between the three main characters. When I selected this book, knowing that a poly relationship would be part of it, I was unsure if it would work for me. I have never read that before and thought It wouldn't be for me - I don't like anything "why-choose" -, but I wanted to give it a try anyway and in here, for me, it worked, so I will give other poly stories on my tbr a chance as well. Unfortunately I did not like Remy. For me, he was really annoying and I could only feel the love between Zidan and Xiaodan. I didn't understand why they cared about Remy or he about them, other than physical attraction. And honestly, he did add nothing to that relationship. The plot sparked my interest round about page 300, which is way too late. I thought, I'd read till the end but I haven't picked up the book in months so I'm calling it a dnf for now. If you have read the ending or even book two, let me know if it's wort holding on to them.
