About the book

'Spectacular and sexy fantasy' - Freya Marske, author of A Marvellous Light

A daring fantasy heist adventure from Jenn Lyons, acclaimed author of the Chorus of Dragons series, The Sky on Fire will thrill fans of Temeraire, Fourth Wing and Dragonriders of Pern.

Enter a world ruled by dragons . . .

Anahrod lives only for survival, forging her own way through the harsh jungles of the Deep with her titan drake by her side. Even when an adventuring party saves her from capture by a local warlord, she is eager to return to her solitary life.

But this is no ordinary rescue. It's Anahrod's past catching up with her. These cunning misfits - and their frustratingly appealing dragonrider ringleader - intend to spirit her away to the dragon-ruled sky cities, where they need her help to steal from a dragon's hoard.

There's just one problem: the hoard in question belongs to the current regent, Neveranimas - and she wants Anahrod dead . . .

This soaring stand-alone fantasy from Jenn Lyons combines conniving dragons, lightning banter, high-stakes intrigue and a little bit of heat.

Like a dragon ride: messy, chaotic, fast paced and so much fun. Dragons with voices. But also: smut out of nowhere. :)

Underdeveloped character arcs with an extremely slow start, before it picked up. While I liked the twist and turns, the ultimate conclusion felt anticlimactic.

    Meh

Sadly this was only a 2,5 star read for me. The pacing was all over the place and the book felt like it was going through an identity crisis. I didn't like the first ~ 40% of the book because it felt like just another all over the place romantasy book. Then we switch over to this being a heist book which was actually fun and then there is a mishmash of political fantasy and again romantasy. I didn't get a feel for any motivations of the main characters most just *are* and they're just stumbeling through the plot because whatever. I also thought the whole garden ring concept of people having rings indicating their gender and sexual preferences was an okayish idea at first but after the third character being introduced with a bullet point list of their sexual identity including kinks it just felt so out of place?? At the end I just didn't care for anyone or anything in this book and don't even know why I finished it.
