When her long-time client unexpectedly retires, she plans to follow-to walk out into the frozen wasteland of their planet with her head held high and her family enriched by her legacy. But when a competitor offers her a final mission, it's one she can't refuse. Soon, she's thrust deep into a world of corporate espionage, duty-bound duels, and shadowy secrets. What she uncovers will change humanity's existence in the stars forever.

    Samurais in Space

The Last Contract of Isako should have been right up my alley. A corporate samurai in a dystopian sci-fi setting, with a protagonist who’s older, battle-worn, and even has a kid? That’s a premise I can usually get behind. And the world Fonda Lee built here is really cool and something very different from what I’ve read before. But sadly, like with some of her previous books, it didn’t completely click for me. I think the distance to the characters made it a bit hard to fully engage with the story. I wanted to feel more connected, more invested, but something kept me at arm’s length. Still, I have to give it credit for the things it did right. Isako being an older protagonist with a family was refreshing, and the world itself was fascinating. Sometimes an author isn't for you, but it's still a great book! 3.5/5 stars Thank you to @NetGalley and @littlebrownbookgroup_UK for the eARC! #TheLastContractOfIsako #Bookstagram #NetGalley
