About the book

From the New York Times bestselling author of If I Stay comes a book about love, heartbreak, travel, and the “accidents” of fate that often prove the people we are seeking are much closer than we know.

“Reading like a teen version of Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love, this tale of romance and mystery engages readers and will cause them to examine their definitions of love and self-identity.”—School Library Journal, starred review

“Offering mystery, drama, and an evocative portrait of unrequited love, this open-ended novel will leave fans eagerly anticipating the companion story.”—Publishers Weekly, starred review

In order to get found, you first have to get lost . . .

Allyson Healey’s life is exactly like her suitcase—packed, planned, ordered. Then on the last day of her three-week post-graduation European tour, she meets Willem. A free-spirited, roving actor, Willem is everything she’s not, and when he invites her to abandon her plans and come to Paris with him, Allyson says yes. This uncharacteristic decision leads to a day of risk and romance, liberation and intimacy: twenty-four hours that will transform Allyson’s life.

Where to start? I was really looking forward to reading this book. I imagined it to be a cute let's travel Europe together-story with loveable characters and a Lovestory to die for. Well ... The problem is that the whole plot didn't get me. Our heroine - Allyson - meets the guy of her dreams and agrees on spending one day in Paris with him. So far so good. But then, things got boring. I was really, really annoyed by Allyson, her falling in love with Willem right away and with her inability to life the moment and to not plan her travels way too detailed (i share more of Willem's way of thinking and planning doesn't do shit because travelling is full of adventures, mistakes and fate). I didn't like that most of the booking took place in Boston because I thought - as I already mentioned - that it would be a roadtrip-trough-Europe-book. The majority of this book was Ally whining and not being able to try to find Willem. Ahrg! (Plus why was everyone in this book so amazed by the Paris-Story? Stuff like this happens all the time. People find and loose each other all. the. time. Don't make a fuss). The writing style and story telling was so boring that I actually skipped some pages towards the end and even though the book ends with kind of a cliffhanger, I have absolutely no intention to go and read Willem's story. No. way. Just one Day is easily one of the worst books I've read all year. Well done. (there were so many unnecessary characters, by the way. Why introduce them if they never ever appear again? Gosh!)
