Description

Now a Netflix animated series!

The New York Times bestselling debut by Adam Gidwitz, the Newbery Honor-winning author of The Inquisitor's Tale.

“A wonderful sense of humor and narrative voice … completely fresh and unique.” –Rick Riordan, #1 bestselling author

Hansel and Gretel walk out of their own story and into eight other classic Grimm (and Grimm-inspired) fairy tales. An irreverent, witty narrator leads us through encounters with witches, warlocks, dragons, and the devil himself. As the siblings roam a forest brimming with menacing foes, they learn the true story behind the famous tales, as well as how to take charge of their destinies and create their own happily ever after. Because once upon a time, fairy tales were awesome.

"But sometimes, coming home is the hardest thing of all." Do you know the proper fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm? I don't mean the Disney versions, the ones with happily ever after and a true loves kiss... think more like, cutting off fingers, beheading your own children, people burning people. If you don't or if you do and want to know more, this is the book for you. Of course this time, it's Hansel and Gretel running through all the fairy tales by themselves, but you'll recognize seven ravens when you see them, right? This book is bloody, gory, shocking, but also wonderful, funny, has an amazing voice and is, all in all, a great quick read. If you like fairy tales but you're a bit bored of happily ever after, this book is for you. I'll definitely continue with this series soon. 3.5 Stars!
