About the book

Throughout history, some books have changed the world. They have transformed the way we see ourselves - and each other. They have inspired debate, dissent, war and revolution. They have enlightened, outraged, provoked and comforted. They have enriched lives - and destroyed them. Now Penguin brings you the works of the great thinkers, pioneers, radicals and visionaries whose ideas shook civilization and helped make us who we are.

Plato's retelling of the discourses between Socrates and his friends on such subjects as love and desire, truth and illusion, spiritual transcendence and the qualities of a good ruler, profoundly affected the ways in which we view human relationships, society and leadership - and shaped the whole tradition of Western philosophy.

i learned a lot. even though this is actually fictional, i don‘t quite believe it. the way plato talked about the whole ambiente and the speeches just seemed too realistic. i loved the talks about eros, honoring the god of love. i loved how everyone tried to top the others. i loved how they tried to degrade women but the real answer about eros came from a woman. i loved how every greek had a love affair with another greek. and mostly, my love and admiration for the incredible socrates grew even more. he was just out of this world. i wish i met him. so, thank you plato for actually honoring socrates and sharing his wisdom with us.
