I am a very big fan of Anne Rice and really like her writing style in general. I loved all books from The Vampire Chronicles (including the new ones), The Mayfair Witches and also Stand alones like "Ramses the Damned". But with Servant of the Bones I had a hard time somehow. It took very long until the story got going, then came the transformation of Azriel into the Servant of the Bones and it got a little better but then again the story just slowed down again and wandered off the main path without any visible direction at first. In the last 50 - 60 pages it finally became clear what the big scheme in the story was. But the way to get there was tiring and there were many times when I just had to put the book away because it did not get me. For the idea of the book and the writing style I would give 2 out of 5 stars plus 1 extra star because of my admiration for Anne Rice.
