Darren and Mr. Crepsley join the Cirque Du Freak. Darren befriends a snake boy, Evra Von, and they both meet Sam Grest and eco-warrior Reggie Veggie (R.V.) at an abandoned railway station. Darren invites Sam and R.V. to a Cirque performance, where R.V. tries to free the caged Wolf Man, leading to his own severe injury when the Wolf Man escapes and attacks. The Wolf Man also kills Sam in the forest, and Darren, weakened by refusing human blood, cannot stop him. Mr. Crepsley incapacitates the Wolf Man. Darren finally decides to preserve some of Sam’s memories by drinking his blood.
