If you've ever read a book by Robin Hobb, you know it is not her style to get to the point quickly. She is a master of developing characters, and she is not afraid of letting that take up as many pages as are needed. Here you just get Nevares viewpoint - which sometimes gets very frustrating because he is just soo dense! And he suffers so much! Similar to Shamans Crossing, he is always trying to do the right thing, but somehow that backfires. And then he suffers. I think he suffers even more than Fitz did, which is no easy feat. I will definitely read the 3rd book of this series and am exited to see where the story will take me.
