3.5 ☆ After loving the first book, I was really excited to dive into the second one, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. While I was still interested in the characters, the love story felt a bit too rushed and abrupt. It lacked the tension and build up that made the dynamic in Book 1 so compelling The spice scenes didn’t really fit naturally into the story for me. They felt a little out of place and didn’t add much to the emotional development or plot. Also, while a lot technically happened in terms of events, it somehow felt like nothing really moved forward. The characters didn’t grow much, and the plot didn’t progress in a meaningful way. Overall, it wasn’t a bad read, but it didn’t hit the same high notes as the first book. I wish the pacing and emotional depth had been more consistent.
I love this series. I love Rooke and I am even warming up to Soren. Thea was the best addition, I love her, suffer with her and I need to know she'll be okay. Her story deserves all the attention. I was never bored but in the last chapters so many new names were added I could not keep them straight, who is who and who belongs to whom... The ending had me shocked. I do not want to spoil it for anyone but OMG - I suspected but damn. This is me, impatiently waiting for the next installment...
I liked this book far better than the first one. The plot is HEAVY and full of information that you can’t digest really easily. If you were looking for a Romantasy - I don’t think you will be happy. It’s definitely a Fantasy with Romance. The core of the story is the fated mating but there is a lot of politics, betrayal and fighting. I love the FMC. She and Aelin would be good friends and share their love for secrets….the cliffhanger at the end is 🤯🤯🤯 But the book is too long and has still to many informations that you don’t really need. Often two people talk to each other but between the next answer are 3 pages internal thoughts. Book 3 is not yet published - so let’s see. It will be a grande finale nonetheless. Would I recommend ? Yes. Strong female characters and unique magic system. But you have to prepare yourself to read a lot and that’s not always pleasurable :)
