Giant, self-centred Viking surfer Eggy shows up on Clement Constantine Church's door ready to paint his newly inherited cottage. Pale, emo-ish, highly wordy Clement is in lust and gun-shy from that moment on. Luckily the need for a fake boyfriend pushes these two along. While the premise sounds like a cozy, quick read, the story feels like a narration by Nicholas, the agent/publisher - stiff, and overly flowery at the same time. Equally problematic is that there is no reason on page why we went from physical interest to life-long commitment and love in what feels like the turn of a page. The ending was lovely though, so I might be even inclined to read part 2.
