I received a free copy from the publisher, LYX.digital, in exchange for an honest review. ▪︎▪︎▪︎ Being a fan of New Adult books, I'm always looking for new authors to get to know and Lex Martin's "Dearest Clementine" caught my interest. It's part of the Dearest Series, but can be read as a stand-alone. This book is about Clementine Avery, an English and Creative writing student at Boston University. She comes across as that bitchy, closed-off girl that doesn't seem to like the idea of having a relationship ever again. Her number one rule: No dating. That is until she meets RA Gavin Murphy, who seems to be more than happy to help her out with the latest assignment. Having signed up for the wrong course, Clem now not only has to deal with Gavin and a growing attraction but writing a novel for her romance writing class. Both protagonists are somewhat complex characters. I instantly sympathised with Gavin, though it took some time with Clementine. She seems to be rather cautious, and at first, you don't really know why, but it soon all adds up. The book combines an engaging style of writing and everything I'd hope for in a New Adult book. The characters and their stories don't seem to be forced and will keep you riveted until the end. There are several small plot twists, a lot of things are happening and sometimes, to my mind, it does seem a bit too much. Though it does not dampen the reading experience. Overall, I enjoyed reading the first book of the series and will look forward to reading the rest as well. It definitely is worth it.
