After a book recommendation channel I follow on Instagram, raved about this one, I got the Ebook. I pretty much enjoyed it. The magic system got me some getting used to, but that is due to my poor ability to remember names, so I haven't gotten the complete idea of it, but since I am going to read the sequel, I think I will be able to dip my feet deeper in it. Something I consider a big plus is the huge representation in the book and generally loveable characters. Moreover, the inclusivity doesn't feel forced. It was a really fun read that was ideal for me to relax after studying.
wow that was incredible. I am in love with this. With the characters. Everything. Someone said this book is Crescent city meeting Bridgerton and I can not disagree. Take the best of both worlds and you get this masterpiece. First of all: the world setting and building. Phenomenal. Complex for sure [stupid me saw AFTER finishing that there would have been an glossary.]. But in its complexity just amazing. Like already mentioned its somehow similar to Crescent city with a slight Bridgerton twist. We get different species with their Orders which is something similar to the Houses from CC. But we also have a courting season just like in regency times and I’m all here for this merge. It is creative and unique but also super interesting and I am so hyped to see where this will go with the next book!! And not only was the world great. THE CHARACTERS. they have me in a spell and I love every one if them. Harlow? Big yes. She is a powerful and strong person but struggles after a breakup from a heavily toxic boyfriend. And through her you get such a raw and unfiltered view on survivors of an abusive relationship. The author has done an incredible job portraying struggles with self worth and self isolation and mental health issues. Her whole journey throughout this book is so incredible but realistic and at times heartbreaking and you are proud of her for every step she takes forward and feel for her with every step back. She has gone through some heavy character development in this book but the plot was not undermined by it. A perfect combination of character developments and healing from mental health issues whilst providing us with a mind-blowing plot. Incredibly done! And let us talk about my new love: Finn McKay. Help, i fell for this guy head over heels with his first line spoken. He is just perfection. Incredibly hot and badass but at the same time so fucking caring and understanding. All I can say is: Welcome to the harem, Finny boy. Which leads us to the romance in this and let me just say *chefs kiss* I am not the biggest fan of second chance romance but if done good I can love it. And this was the case here. The instant attraction on both sides when meeting again. The hurt. The pain. The longing. I’m here for it! It was cute, it was hot, it was heartbreakingly sweet and painful. Everything I wanted. I just cant wait to see what they are going to do in book two! I am so hyped! And not only for our main couple but the secondary characters? They were amazing! I CANT mention every single one of them but it would be fucking deserved! The mothers? The sisters? The while family dynamic? Fantastically done! Enzo? Alaric? Riley? Kate? Petra? Cian? They are all amazing and I want to be their new friend! And the most amazing part of the book is the diversity and LGBT+ representation in this book! This was so amazing!! We need more books that just casually throw two mothers, non binary characters and all kinds of sexuality at us without it being big of a deal!! Everyone who claimed this should be the new booktok and bookstagram darling is right, this book deserves it! 5
