As much as I love the Manga, the BSD novels are on another level, especially when it‘s written from Odasaku‘s point of view. Asagiri‘s note at the end is so moving and exactly why I love him as an author. The way he is so passionate about literature and his own characters SHOWS in his works, especially here. The passage about the process of writing and his view on it, letting a fictional character speak to you and the emotional value of stories was so touching to me it actually made me tear up. As cheesy as it sounds, when he once said bungo stray dogs is for people that are not good at living and need stories like oxygen, he truly meant that and I see this reflected in many instances. Anyways, the novel itself was written beautifully and is definitely one of my faves now, seriously I can’t stop praising it (and the translator of course!). The parallels between side A and B (which plays in the Beast-universe) were very interesting and we gained further insights of Dazai through that. Harukawa also delivered amazing artworks that enhanced the story as always!!
