I didn't enjoy this book... Basically, when our main character, Andie's mother dies, she discovers that 1) her mother had a gambling problem and left her a crushing $400k debt and 2) she lied about pretty much everything and isn't who she said she was. She's actually from this town, Deception Valley. So Andie decides to go there and try to find info about her mother. There, she stumbles into a game of """laser tag""", and meets her uncle, her cousin (who are pretty rich while she had to struggle her whole life with a neglectful mother) and the staff of a bar, The Dens. It's a lot of drama from there. I know we're dealing with supernatural here and everything but the only way I cna describe why I never got into the story is it was unrealistic. Andie, is pretty hard to like, she didn't have any personnality appart from the typical "trying to be a hardass" type characterisation. A lot of the story felt forced, like everything besides her budding relationship with Herc, her uncle. I mostly hated the fact that she went to the Dens, interacted with part of the pack there, and saw how they were, and yet, she totally bought into the whole "they're beasts/monsters" thing without even trying to make up her own mind. From then, I was pretty uninterested and pushed to the end in case it got better but I didn't really find anything redeeming.
