Else Lasker-Schüler is probably my favourite poet. Her romantic poems are the best I ever read for sure. They express love and romantic feelings in a way I can relate to, but they don't get caught up in clichés. They feel fresh and honest. When she speaks of passion, she's never embarassing. I also like her more melancholic poems. Else Lasker-Schüler is one of the few poets that really, truly found new ways to express things, to say what she wants to say. Her poetry isn't pretentiously heavy with meaning and it's not just pretty. It's exciting and creative and a truly new way to play with words.
